Bio

Valerie Durant is an artist, integrating photography, sculpture and sound in her visual arts practise. She was born and lives in Vancouver on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. Within her practice she explores the interconnectivity between humans and the natural world, considering the fluid and seemingly invisible connections that exist in nature. Linking the past and future with the present, along with concepts of regeneration and continuum, her material practice conveys impermanence and temporality. She works mostly with ephemeral materials including ice, recycled paper and found objects, treading lightly on the earth for the benefit of future generations. Durant received her MA(2012) from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, while working as a sustainability consultant for the UK Government. She holds a BFA (2002) in visual arts from Emily CarrUniversity and attended Cooper Union School of Art & Science in NYC. Her work is held in public and private collections locally and internationally.
