Bio
Monique Fouquet was born in Quebec City and now lives in Vancouver, Canada. She holds an MFA (Simon Fraser University) and a PhD (The University of British Columbia). She taught at Emily Carr University of Art + Design and served as Vice President Academic and Provost 2002-2011.
While the greater part of her work encompasses drawing on paper, a recent series of archival prints focuses on re-imagining the notion of still life. These prints combine drawing and photography in a synthesis of two distinct visual mediums as a means of depicting the artist’s studio, a space of cultural production within the domestic sphere. Recent explorations also include traditional stop-motion animation as a dynamic form that investigates how drawing moves on the screen without explicit narratives.
She has exhibited her work in solo and group exhibitions in Canada, the United States and Asia including the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Surrey Art Gallery, the Contemporary Art Gallery, the Henry Art Gallery at the University of Washington, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, and the Yokohama Citizen Gallery among others.
Her work is included in the collections of Canada Council Art Bank, the City of Vancouver, Simon Fraser University, the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Vancouver General Hospital and in numerous private collections in Canada and the United States.
