EXHIBITION STATEMENT
Qabala, a mystical tradition, a practice and a cosmology in Jewish esoteric thought, is the study of the relationship between the eternal divine and the material world. Early knowledge was transmitted orally from master to disciple until it crystalized in textual form in 12th and 13 th century Spain and southern France. Its method prioritizes the questioning, probing and interpretating of esoteric ideas. For over two thousand years, Qabala has expanded and evolved, taking on ever emergent forms. There is no singular Qabala; this elusiveness is part of its attraction.
Two key texts of the Qabala, the Sefer Yetzirah (Book of Formation) and the Sefer Bahir (Book of Brightness) suggest that God created the world through thirty-two pathways of wisdom. This number is calculated by adding the ten sefirot (emanations of the divine life force) from the Qabalistic tree of life and the twenty-two paths of energy connecting them which also reflects the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet. An expansive interplay between the sefirot and the Hebrew language point to ongoing processes of formation. The pathways represent phases of cosmic principles between material, intermediary and mystical realms.
This exhibition presents 18 of the 32 images printed from the original collages and brought together in an artist book. Each contain a message from the Qabala, offering emergent information to access hidden realms. Their capacity for resonance is activated by the viewer’s imagination, receptivity and susceptibility to illumination.

Interdimensional Worlds -
Limited Edition Artist Book
by Randy Lee Cutler
Navigating the profound energy of the Qabala and Jewish mysticism, this artist book offers visual and textual imagery as a gateway to both hidden realms and an ancestral inheritance. It begins with an oracle deck representing the Thirty-Two Pathways to Wisdom found within the Qabalistic tree of life diagram. The accompanying essay outlines a particular history of this mystical tradition through a multi-layered and speculative approach ranging from personal experience, queer interpretations and quantum cosmologies.
Drawing on this ancestral practice, the project provides a unique and unorthodox perspective, thoughts within thoughts around thoughts, on our current historical moment. Some of the figures encountered in Qabala include manifestations of the Shekhinah (divine feminine), the ten sephirot (supernatural emanations), intermediary beings (celestial messengers) and its shared cosmologies with quantum physics.
